SUPPORT THE ENVIRONMENT
Fewer car trips mean reduced CO₂ emissions and cleaner air around schools and neighborhoods.

Our Walk N Roll program not only affects traffic and congestion around schools, but also is beloved by parents, principals and students. AMG’s community-based model requires minimal school staff time, instead leveraging interested volunteers, supported by our staff, templates, and resources.

Children who walk or roll to school get valuable daily exercise—just 20 minutes of aerobic activity can help them complete school tasks faster and more accurately.
Walk N Roll Day can boost attendance by up to 2% and reduce tardiness by as much as 50%, directly supporting school funding and engagement.
Families and neighbors report stronger connections, more family time, increased childhood independence, and a more positive school community overall.
Participation across the region grows with each new Walk N Roll school: the chart (with green bars) above illustrates total participation during the first nine weeks of the 2025–2026 school year in Contra Costa County.

With each year that Walk N Roll runs at a school, the culture of that school community changes. Participation increases over time, and the schools increase their adult ridership as well, normalizing active transportation.
