The SAE roundtable centered on the real-world data needs of AV operators navigating work zones, weather disruptions, and temporary closures. Public agencies, private AV developers, and infrastructure owners came together to discuss how data quality, interoperability, and real-time communication shape safety and efficiency. Conversations explored what data AVs truly need to operate safely, what tools and standards already exist to share information more effectively, and how trust can be built through consistent, transparent data exchange.
The group shared a common goal—closing the gap between the data infrastructure owners provide and what AVs actually need—while identifying practical ways to improve decision-making and collaboration. It was an insightful and forward-looking discussion that highlighted just how much progress is possible when the industry comes together to problem-solve.
